Ban Mineral Oil Aromatic Hydrocarbons now

French NGO Foodwatch has launched a petition to improve EU legislation on Mineral Oil Aromatic Hydrocarbons (MOAH), a type of chemicals derived from petroleum that can get in touch with food during processing, through polluted environments, or through food contact materials (FCMs).
Foodwatch’s advocacy work in 2022 resulted in the commitment of new legislation covering these contaminants by the European Commission. Still, the initiators are deeply dissatisfied with the draft legislation they have been able to access. Foodwatch has launched a petition with over 200,000 signatures calling for simpler and clearer legislation banning MOAHs, claiming that the industry has the tools to protect food from these dangerous contaminants.
