Fourth High-level Meeting of the UN General Assembly on the prevention and control of NCDs and the promotion of mental health and wellbeing (HLM4)
25 September 2025
On 25 September 2025, world Head of States and Government will meet at the UN General Assembly to set a new vision for tackling noncommunicable diseases (NCDs) and promoting mental health and well-being towards 2030 and beyond.
The final draft of the political declaration that will be presented for approval at the Assembly has been shared. This fourth High-Level Meeting on NCDs offers a unique chance to adopt an ambitious and realistic plan.
Until now, progress towards reducing premature deaths from NCDs by one third has been lagging.
Limited investment in health services has increased inequalities in care. Without urgent action, long-term health outcomes will worsen.
Member States and global partners are urged to strengthen their commitment, thanks to collaboration between governments and society, reforming health systems, securing sustainable funding, and addressing the social, economic, and environmental causes of risk and inequality.
SAFE advocates for a stronger emphasis on healthy lifestyles, particularly healthy diets, which are well-known to help prevent non-communicable diseases and increasingly recognised for their positive effects on mental health and overall well-being.
