Workshops are being rolled out in Croatia, Greece, Lithuania and Italy to build the capacities of NGOs and Ukrainian professionals in addressing health promotion and prevention of diabetes in their work. Wworkshop toolkits were developed to provide structured but flexible resources for developing training sessions for the two target groups: NGOs and Ukrainian professionals. The NGO workshops aim to strengthen organisations’ capacity to promote health and raise awareness about Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) prevention, especially diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and healthy nutrition. Their content is adapted to each organisation’s context, experience, background data and needs identified in national policy assessments. Workshops with Ukrainian professionals focus on prevention of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases in emergency situations.
Workshops with NGOs will serve them to be better equipped to design targeted health campaigns, build local partnerships, and support community education on NCD prevention. The training programme focuses on several areas:
- NCD prevention within a community setting, learning about risk factors and the importance of early intervention and healthy behaviours;
- Practical guidance on planning and conducting public health campaigns, from defining objectives to designing culturally appropriate messages;
- Use different channels of communication, such as printed materials, social media, and community events, to reach diverse audiences effectively;
- Build partnerships with local institutions to improve outreach and involve community members in designing and delivering health initiatives;
- Ensure follow-up using simple monitoring tools.
Workshop with Ukrainian professionals will enhance their ability to manage NCD prevention and care more effectively in emergency or resource-limited settings.
- Participants will be better prepared to integrate NCD management protocols into crisis response frameworks and adapt care strategies to unstable conditions.
- Knowledge gained will contribute to improved continuity of care for patients with chronic conditions, even in disrupted healthcare environments.
- Strengthened professional capacity will support broader health system resilience and promote collaboration among healthcare workers involved in NCD prevention and emergency response.
