EPIC SHIFT

SAFE is proud to be a partner in the EPIC-SHIFT project, which explores alternative proteins from novel foods, such as insect, fungi, and algae products, as well as by-products from agriculture and aquaculture. These offer a promising opportunity to reduce reliance on animal-based proteins and minimize environmental impacts. The current food system is environmentally and socio-economically unsustainable.

There is still limited knowledge on the impact of alternative proteins from novel foods. The main aim of EPIC-SHIFT is to fill this knowledge gap and assess thoroughly and independently the viability of these proteins as credible alternatives for meat products and their overall sustainability.
