Hazardous chemicals banned in the EU should also be banned for export
09 May 2023
The European Commission has just launched a public consultation on the legislative initiative that aims to prohibit the production and/or export of certain hazardous chemicals that are banned in the EU, to protect non-EU countries from their negative effects on human health and the environment.
The initiative intends to improve the international standing of the EU, strengthening the credibility of the EU’s actions. It plans to fulfill a commitment made in the EU’s chemicals strategy for sustainability.
SAFE strongly believes that hazardous chemicals banned in the EU should also be banned for export. Human health and the environment should be protected worldwide.
The public consultation is open until 31 July. The impact assessment is due to be published in the autumn, with the aim of adopting a legislative proposal before the end of the year
SAFE invites all European citizens to have their say on this important issue.
