24 June 2026
On 24 June, the Circalgae Project presented its work at the European Parliament in Brussels during a session on the future of algae-based innovation.

Hosted by MEP Eric Sargiacomo and the S&D Group, the event brought together European Commission representatives (DG RTD and DG MARE) and project partners (CEVA, SAFE, CEAMSA, PÔLE AQUIMER, CSIC and Chalmers University). The discussion focused on how algae can support a more sustainable, circular and resilient Europe.
Speakers highlighted the role of algae-based biorefineries and bio-based products in strengthening the green transition and developing sustainable blue value chains. Irene Minio (SAFE) also presented our regulatory guide for new algae-based food products developed during the project, explaining the approval process.
