Green Deal Projects Support Office event on “Accelerating the green transition through Research and Innovation”

07 May 2026

SAFE contributed to “Accelerating the green transition through research and innovation”, the final Green Deal Call hybrid event organised by the Green Deal Projects Support Office on 28 April 2026, in Brussels. The Green Deal Call is a €1 billion initiative aimed at funding research and innovation projects that address climate change and promote sustainability in Europe.

The event brought together 73 EU-funded projects to show results, policy contributions, and ways to extend impact beyond the lifetime of the projects.

SAFE represented the ZeroW project on food loss and waste, stressing a key aspect beyond developing new solutions and technologies: making sure that they are implemented in real life after the end of a project.

ZeroW has worked across the food chain, from production to consumption, to test practical ways of preventing and reducing food loss and waste.

During the panel session on impact and outcomes, Antonio De Carluccio from SAFE highlighted the need to scale solutions through supportive policies, regional replication, and strong collaboration.

SAFE also underlined the role of consumers, as many solutions can only deliver their full impact if people understand them, trust them, and are supported to make less wasteful choices in everyday life.

Europe already has promising solutions to reduce food waste. The next step is to help those solutions travel further, faster and more effectively, from demonstration to everyday practice.
