European Commission publishes its chemicals strategy
14 October 2020
The EC published its new Chemicals Strategy on the 14th October (read it here). The EU chemicals strategy aims to address the cumulative and combined effects of chemicals, including pesticides, stressing a need to accelerate work on methodologies that ensure existing provisions can be fully implemented.
It is intended as a first step towards a zero pollution ambition for a toxic-free environment, as announced in the European Green Deal.
The annual report published by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) earlier in 2020 found that one-third of the food consumed in Europe contains residues of two or more pesticides.
