European Commission publishes its chemicals strategy

The EC published its new Chemicals Strategy on the 14^th October (read it here). The EU chemicals strategy aims to address the cumulative and combined effects of chemicals, including pesticides, stressing a need to accelerate work on methodologies that ensure existing provisions can be fully implemented.

It is intended as a first step towards a zero pollution ambition for a toxic-free environment, as announced in the European Green Deal. 

The annual report published by the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) earlier in 2020 found that one-third of the food consumed in Europe contains residues of two or more pesticides.
