EC Vice-President Timmermans addresses the EU Climate Law in the European Parliament
24 June 2021
On 24 June 2021, European Commission Executive Vice-President Frans Timmermans gave a speech on the brand new Climate Law in the European Parliament. On this occasion, he praised the legislative process up to this point and called this new EU initiative “the law of laws”, highlighting its binding target of 55% GHG emissions reduction (by 2030) and climate neutrality (by 2050).
Timmermans furthermore claimed that this law is merely a beginning, as the Commission will present proposals of a set of measures to bring about meaningful changes (on 14 July 2021). Co-legislators were called upon to support this new law.
