E171: consumers must be put first
23 September 2019
SAFE and other CSOs recently published a press release to urge the European Commission and national expert representatives to uphold the French ban on food colourant E171 (Titanium Dioxide, TiO2). On 23 September, another article from Euractiv recalls that important lobbying activities have been conducted by titanium dioxide manufacturers on this issue. The article also sums up the current legal framework and the potential conflicts of interests there may be with actual studies used to assess TiO2’s safety as a food additive.
SAFE, Agir pour l’Environnement and ECOS recently launched a petition to raise public awareness on this crucial issue. You can support it here and watch our explanatory video there.
