COP29 to address food systems and their impact on the environment
05 November 2024

As reported by Food Navigator Europe, COP29 will take place in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 11 to 22 November. The conference aims at advancing the goals of the Paris Agreement and the mitigation of the effects of climate change. Last year’s COP28 in Dubai shifted towards a greater focus on food and COP29 will continue the tradition of last years’ Food, Agriculture and Water Day on 19 November. It will focus on how stakeholders can come together to address food and agricultural problems.
During this day there will notably be the launch of the declaration on reducing methane from organic waste, maybe including animal farming, too. In parallel, the Harmoniya initiative, will be launched on 19 November as well, will be a collaboration between the COP29 presidency and the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation, to amplify the voices of farmers, villagers, and rural communities, and to encourage investment in climate-resilient agrifood systems.
