SAFE’s press releases on the trilogue deal on NGTs

28 January 2026

SAFE issued two press releases on the trilogue deal on New Genomic Techniques (NGTs): one to call for the deal to be rejected by the European Parliament, the other one to call for the European Parliament to reconsider its initial position with safeguards to protect organic food production, after the deal has been enforced. The current deal with the European Council and the European Commission foresees lower traceability requirements for so-called category 1 NGTs, which would undermine the integrity of organic food production, threatening its very existence.
