Advocating for more inclusive food systems, fostering access to healthy, affordable and sustainable food for disadvantaged groups
Current crises are putting global food systems at risk. With global poverty on the rise and inequalities exacerbated, notably by the COVID-19 pandemic, vulnerable households with reduced incomes across Europe are considered as primary victims. Disadvantaged groups should be able to access affordable, sustainable and healthy food. SAFE advocates for better affordability and accessibility of food products across Europe through healthy and sustainable food environments, and for the social inclusion of at-risk and disadvantaged population groups. Healthy and sustainable foods should be the default and most desirable option for consumers of every social background, while limiting the availability and promotional opportunities for foods associated with unhealthy and unsustainable diets is a crucial challenge for the future.
