Floriana Cimmarusti
Secretary General

FlorianaCimmarustiFloriana is an international lawyer with more than fifteen years of working experience gained in Italy, Belgium and Switzerland. She was born in Bari, Italy, where she studied law, concluding with an Erasmus program in international law in Salamanca, Spain. Next to her law degree, she obtained a Master in Law, Economy and Politics of the European Union at the European College of Parma in Italy.

She gained experience in EU Law at the Tizzano law firm in Brussels. Furthermore, she worked in the International Departement of the National Council of Architects in Rome as legal Counsel expert in EU Affairs. Later she was a director of Cooperation Bancaire pour l’Europe, a GEIE based in Brussels.

For family reasons she moved to Geneva, Switzerland, where she attended a Master in Laws LLM at the University of Geneva. In Switzerland, she worked as legal Counsel in Lausanne at the Banque Cantonale de Vaud and in Cotecna, an international company based in Geneva.

Once back in Brussels, she worked again as a lobbyist at the European Fund Asset Management Association where she was Regulatory Policy Adviser. She also cooperated with BelgicaNNats, a non-profit organization in charge of protecting the rights of working children in developing countries.

Björn Becker
Communications Officer

BBBjörn has 15+ years of experience in EU communications and event management. He’s from Germany and studied Political Science, International Cooperation and EU Public Policy in Aachen (Germany), Paris and London. Björn worked in the European ParliamentEuropean Voice and 6 years for Eurochild, the European children’s rights network.

At SAFE he’s in charge of the website, the newsletter mailings and advising on the Communications strategy.


Alexandra Lisi
Project Coordinator & Policy Officer

Alexandra is a French junior jurist. After graduating from a dual bachelor degree in Law and Language at Université de Tours, she decided to specialize in European Law as part of a Master’s degree at the same University. In 2017, to validate her degree, she joined SAFE’s team as an EU Affairs Intern for six months. She subsequently chose to do a voluntary civic service at the “Tribunal de Grande Instance” of Le Mans (France) before joining SAFE again in September 2018.

Passionate about food safety, her ambition is to defend the related interests of civil society at the European level.

At SAFE, Alexandra uses her abilities to conduct lobbying activities and coordinate our Erasmus+ Project which aims at tackling adolescent obesity.

Bruno Menne
Policy Officer & Project Coordinator

After graduating from a bachelor in Political Science at Université Saint-Louis Bruxelles, Bruno went to Rotterdam to pursue a master in International Public Management and Public Policies at the Erasmus University of Rotterdam. In 2016, while completing a second master in Public Administration at Université Catholique de Louvain-La-Neuve, he joined SAFE for a 10 months internship. Finally, after graduating from his second master in September 2017, he joined SAFE’s team as Policy Officer and Project Coordinator.

At SAFE, Bruno uses his skills to monitor EU legislation and conduct lobbying activities. He is also in charge of coordinating different EU projects.

Oona Buttafoco
Communications & EU Affairs Intern

Oona is a French, Italian and British Masters student. After completing an undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Politics at the University of Edinburgh, she moved to Sweden to pursue an Erasmus Mundus Programme of Excellence in Euroculture. Throughout her studies, she has become increasingly invested in issues surrounding food safety and agricultural policy. Most recently, her research focused on the use of Blockchain for the improvement of food traceability in the EU. Oona joined SAFE in August 2018 as a Communications and EU Affairs Intern.

Antoine D’haese
Communications & EU Affairs Intern

Antoine is Belgian and recently completed an Advanced Master in Interdisciplinary Analysis of European integration at the Institute of European Studies in Brussels.  He previously graduated in History at Université Libre de Bruxelles in 2015, then worked as an archivist in Paris for a French Environmentalist Association and at the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He joined SAFE’s team in June 2018 as Communications and EU Affairs Intern. Antoine is in charge of managing SAFE’s social networks and helping the team with their ongoing projects.

Charlotte Festa
Communications & EU Affairs Intern

Charlotte is a graduate student in Environmental Policy at Sciences Po, PSIA, with a passion for science-based policy making at the nexus of food, health and the environment. She is from Vienna and previously graduated from the University of St. Gallen in Switzerland with a B.A. in Business Administration. With years of professional experience, i.a. at the Austrian Ministry of the Interior and as Member and Head of the Organising Committee of the St. Gallen Symposium, she is now happy to dedicate her knowledge and brainpower to SAFE’s mission.

Alicia Bé
Communications & EU Affairs Intern

Alicia is French, Belgian and Dutch. After completing a Bachelor of Science in European Public Health at Maastricht University she moved to Dublin to pursue a Master of Public Health (Nutrition) at University College Dublin. During her studies her interest in nutrition and food-related issues became apparent. Which prompted her to write her bachelor thesis about the health, environmental and social impacts of meat consumption at the EU level. More recently, her research focused on the effects of fruit and vegetables consumption on post-partum depression. Alicia joined SAFE in September 2018 as a Communication and EU Affairs Intern.
