Fakers, bakers and praline-makers fear bite of EU origin labels


Following the Commission’s proposal for new legislation on so-called country of origin labelling, food companies fear that they will be forced to indicate the origin of their primary ingredient on packaging. Boxes of gourmet Belgian chocolates, for example, might have to give some indication that the cocoa came from Ivory Coast, while Italian coffee would also be shown to come from beans grown thousands of miles away.
